Established in 1992, the Preschool Program is founded on the premise that early intervention is essential for the success of at-risk children. One hundred thirty children, birth to age four, participate in Guadalupe’s preschool. During the school year, the waiting list for preschool ranges from 40 to 100 children.

Home-Based Preschool. Six Parent Educators visit families with children ages birth to three. The weekly hour-long visits are designed to build upon parents’ strengths as they support their children’s growth. Educators work collaboratively with parents on basic child development, health and nutrition, activities to stimulate learning, and topics of parents’ own choosing. Group meetings provide parents with an opportunity to meet other parents, decreasing a sense of isolation, and providing new skills and resources for parents to use in daily interactions with their children.

Seventy children are enrolled in this program. The weekly, hour-long visits are designed to build upon parents’ strengths as they support their child’s growth. Educator’s work collaboratively with parents on basic child development, health and nutrition, activities to stimulate learning and topics of the parent’s own choosing.

During the summer the Home-Based Preschool Program hosts family meetings to further the development of our families and enhance the growing appreciation of community.

Research Program. For ten years, Guadalupe's preschool staff has collaborated with researchers from the Utah State University's Early Intervention Research Institute (EIRI). The projects have provided development opportunities for all ELC staff and opportunities to participate in scholarly presentations to wider educational community. In the classroom, this research project has had a positive impact on students' learning, as shown by consistently rising test scores. Faculty and staff are engaged in reflective practices, and a strengths-based program development model is used to best serve the needs of students.
