The ECEC Program encourages parent Involvement by having monthly family gatherings. 71% of ECEC families participated in the family gatherings from September to December. ECEC hosted an Open House for all children and families before school started. Also in September, ECEC had an evening outside Welcoming Pizza Party for the families. Pumpkin carving in the early afternoon in October involved the children carving with their Dads, Moms or Grandparents. Our annual November Pozole dinner was enjoyed by the families and their extended families along with the teachers. In December our families celebrated the holiday season with a Guadalupe Christmas Party with Santa, great food and games. After Christmas break, ECEC families anticipate "Pajama Night" in January. Having cookies and milk, singing songs and snuggling while reading books with their children is a great way to start the New Year!

During the school year the Parent Educators provide over 70 students and their families with home visits. During the home visits parents are provided with activities that encourage their child's development while supporting positive parent-child interactions. Along with home visits, parents are encouraged to attend group outings where they can interact with other parents in the program. During the summer parents can attend group activities instead of home visits. This summer activities included the Zoo, the Children's Museum, a visit from Intermountain Therapy Dogs, outside water play and Infant Massage. In October we offered a Scrap-booking Night and in November there was a Pie Making Night.

December was an exciting month in the School-Based preschool program. Our students participated in shopping with the Utah Jazz Bear thanks to Brenda Hoskins & RC Willey and the Fireman & Friends Foundation. Preschool students were also provided a visit from Santa Claus and a Christmas party by our friends from G.E. Capital. Our preschool students have made significant accomplishments in pre-literacy skills in 2007, and we look forward to what the New Year will bring.

Students enjoyed Viewmont High School Day for Christmas once again this year. The wonderful students (Santa's helpers) and teachers of Viewmont brought presents for our students to open. Then they spent the day playing and singing Christmas songs with our students.
We are excited to announce that our media lab is up and running. The lab has all new computers, computer tables and software which is a first for Guadalupe. Our students, teachers and staff have been making great use of the new technology. The lab is a major step towards integrating technology into our curriculum.
Our students, their families and our staff celebrated Christmas by coming together for our annual Family Christmas Party. At the party families enjoyed cookie decorating, crafts and even a visit from Santa.
Our annual Christmas Store was a great success. Through the generosity of donors and volunteers we were able to provide our parents with the opportunity to put presents under their trees and smiles on their children's faces.

On August 19th, 35 students and family members went on a trip to Silver Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon as guests of the Cottonwood Canyon Foundation. Special thanks to tutor Patrick Nelson for inviting our students and organizing the trip.

The children in the babysitting room have been learning crafts, like crocheting! They love it! Thanks tutor Nelly Klooster, for helping teach them crafts. Nelly needs materials. If you would like to donate some money or materials for more craft projects, please talk to Kate Diggins.
