Although we are in the midst of winter, Guadalupe Schools is already thinking about the bounty of a summer harvest. Under the direction of kindergarten teacher, Elaine Christensen, Guadalupe Schools embarked on creating a unique growing experience for our students, families and neighbors. The project will involve gardening and art from the community.
This past fall, volunteers and parents gathered at the school to build 6 raised gardens. As soon as spring is here, the gardens will be filled with dirt and seeds will be planted. We will keep you posted on the progress of the Guadalupe Schools’ Art Garden!

One of the barriers adults face when seeking English language instruction is the lack of childcare. Guadalupe Schools’ VIP is proud to offer this service for both our evening program and Family Literacy program. Rosa Ramos runs VIP’s childcare services four nights a week for parents who need babysitting while they are in class. A large donation of fabric turned into a fun activity for the VIP childcare room in early December. Rosa started whipping up scarves as soon as she saw the cloth and had enough that all of the kids in VIP’s childcare could make scarves for their parents as a surprise Christmas present! She used a crack between two cabinets to guide her scissors. Once the scarf was cut and fringed, kids beaded the fringe to personalize their gift.
